CHILDREN at a North Yorkshire primary school are able to climb, run and play to their hearts’ content thanks to £10,000 of new playground equipment.
Headteacher of South Otterington Church of England Primary School Kate Williamson said the Awards For All Cash had enabled the pupils to chose a wide range of equipment and were now making the most of their new facilities.
The playground at the primary school, near Northallerton, is the only one children in the village have close access to as there is no playground in the village.
Ms Williamson said: “Our old play equipment had gone rotten and it was no longer safe for use.
“We had been without any equipment for about a year so the children were very excited about it.
“Our student council helped to chose and design the equipment so they were really hands-on in the whole process.”
The equipment includes a trim trail – a series of wooden pieces of climbing equipment; a log and net climbing frame; safety surfaces; new playground markings, including a number square and hop scotch; game-topped picnic tables; and a target wall.
The Friends of South Otterington Primary School helped to raise the rest of the cash needed to finish the project.
