A SENIOR chef at a North Yorkshire auction house and restaurant has been named as a finalist for game chef of the year.

Tristan Prudden, a senior chef at the Garden Rooms at Tennants, Leyburn, is in the running to be named Braehead Foods game chef of the year – a competition now in its sixth year.

The competition finale involves a cook off at The Cook School, Scotland, on Monday, January 25, where finalists will be required to cook and present two game dishes for a panel of judges, which includes Paul Gayler, one of the countries culinary masters , Tom Kitchen, the youngest winner of a Michelin star and Martin Wishart, award winning chef and restauranteur.

Mr Prudden has long held a passion for food and cooking. He successfully gained a scholarship place at the Tante Marie School of Cookery - part owned by Gordon Ramsay - in 2009 and graduated in 2010 as student of the year.

A spokesman from the Garden Rooms said: “We are delighted to have him creating incredible food for our restaurant, alongside our strong team of chefs.”

“In February, the Garden Rooms will be launching a food heroes menu that will incorporate local producers and their produce.

“To celebrate Tristan’s amazing achievement, we will be starting off with a game theme. We are thrilled Tristan has made it to the final and would like to wish him the very best of luck.”

The result and details of the food heroes menu will be posted at www.tennantsgardenrooms.com.
