A SPORTS centre has held a family fun open day to show local people the facilities on their doorstep following a £5,000 grant for refurbishments.
The Yorebridge Sports and Leisure Centre in Askrigg, near Leyburn, includes a gym suite, fitness studio and a floodlit multi-use games area, and was created by the Yorebridge Sports Development Association.
The centre has received grants from Richmondshire District Council's communities opportunity fund and Yorebridge Education Foundation, which provided funds for central heating and refurbishment of toilets and showers.
Richmond MP Rishi Sunak attended the event with his family, along with Richmondshire councillors.
Mr Sunak said: “The centre is a tremendous example of the local community coming together to create an asset for all. My family had a great time there and I’m sure lots of Dalesfolk will enjoy these super facilities.”
Cllr Yvonne Peacock, chair of the development association, said: "We were delighted Rishi could attend with his family. It means a lot to have our MP’s support.”
