A POPULAR walking and book festival is preparing for its 11th year with events focusing on the history of the area, and walks suitable for all abilities.

The Richmond Walking and Book Festival, taking place from Tuesday, September 25 to Sunday, October 4, and will feature an illustrated talk on the ancient cup and ring marks which can be seen on Gayle Moor and the Feldom Ranges, and talks from Peter Robinson, Rob Cowen and Alan Johnson MP.

There will also be walks for both keen walkers and gentle strollers, including a nine mile walk around Penhill in Wensleydale, and a three mile around the archaeology of Braithwaite Hall in Coverdale.

Organiser Trevor Thurlow said: “Both the walking and book events are proving

popular. There really is something to suit everyone in this year’s programme.”

The full programme is now available on the festival website booksandboots.org, and is supplemented by a printed brochure available in

many local outlets. Events can be booked online, by post or at the festival box office at the Castle Hill bookshop in Richmond.
