A FORMER district councillor who resigned after just three months in the post has expressed her regret at having to step down.

Karen Kirby was elected as a Conservative councillor for Richmondshire District Council in Richmond East in May, but due to health problems has been forced to resign.

She said: “It is with great regret that I am standing down. I was so looking forward to the new challenge and getting involved with local people.

“A couple of years ago I had a brain tumour and since then I have been putting my life back together and building a successful business.

“However recently I have been feeling ill again and recognised the signs – I slur my words when I’m tired and am unsteady – and I didn’t think I could properly carry out the job I needed to do.

“I have taken on a less taxing role at work and am continuing to do my brain training exercises.”

Ms Kirby, who runs local award-winning company Indbuild, said she wanted to thank everyone who voted for her and that she was sorry for having to bow out.

She added: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time canvassing and meeting residents. I made a real connection with many people and I was so excited to get started.”
