THE parents of a boy who say he was relentlessly bullied are to move him to another school after claiming nothing has been done to help him.

Victoria and Lee York say they raised the issues concerning their ten-year-old son numerous times at Barton Church of England Primary School, between Darlington and Richmond, without any action being taken.

However, a spokeswoman from North Yorkshire County Council said yesterday that procedures at the school were being reviewed and it "takes all concerns raised by parents extremely seriously.”

The Yorks also contacted North Yorkshire County Council, Ofsted, former MP William Hague, police and the NSPCC about the bullying - but all replied that they were unable to help as the couple had not gone through the school's official complaints procedure.

The couple also raised the matter with the Government's Department for Education - which found the school was in breach of complaints policy procedure.

“My son was coming home every week with issues but the school never contacted us about them," said Mrs York. "Then the incidents grew more frequent and serious.

“A complaints procedure seemed like it would take so long. But we did complain about the headteacher."

The Department found the school was in breach of the 2002 Education Act which requires the governing body establish procedures for dealing with all complaints.

But at Barton, there was no procedures for dealing with a complaint about the headteacher.

However, it did not find the school had breached its general complaints procedure or its behaviour management policy.

Mrs York said nothing still seemed to have been done over the bullying issue and so she intended to move her son to a another school.

“I hope a new start in September will help my son grow in confidence because currently he has very low self-esteem," she added.

A county council spokeswoman said: “In response to the findings from the Department for Education, the local authority has worked with the school to ensure recommendations made in the complaint are complied with.

“This included a review of the school’s complaints procedure and aspects of the procedure that needed improving have now been addressed."
