AN Olympic athlete called in to Richmond Primary School to inspire the next generation of sporting stars.

Rebekah Wilson, a member of Team GB who competed in the bobsleigh at the 2014 Winter Olympics, visited the school to meet the children, take training and talk to pupils about her career.

Year 6 pupil Brodie Smith said the day had been "fantastic".

"Rebekah really motivated us to keep going and achieve our goals," she added.

Aaron English, also in Year 6, said: "It kept us on our toes, literally, and helped us get fit while having a whale of a time. I loved sport before, but I love it even more now."

Iain McCulloch, head of PE and sport at the school, said: "It was a truly inspirational event for the children. At Richmond C of E we are committed to providing events which inspire children into sport. I think this ranks right up there with the best we've ever had. Thank you Rebekah."

The athlete said she had enjoyed a wonderful day at the school.

"The children were enthusiastic, polite and courteous throughout the event. I think we certainly have some future Olympians at Richmond C of E."

The school visit was organised through the Sports for Champions initiative, which aims to inspire children to get involved in sport.
