A MUSEUM has joined forces with an auction house to promote culture and the arts in the North-East and Yorkshire.

The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle and Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, have formed a new partnership ahead of a special exhibition this summer.

It will see the museum curate a loan exhibition of treasures from its internationally renowned collection of fine and decorative arts at the auction house.

The idea is to incorporate furniture from the Paris homes of the museum’s founders, John and Josephine Bowes, as well as displaying some of their purchases, to illustrate their lives in Paris and their taste and interests.

The items will be on view in Tennants’ new exhibition and event venue, The Garden Rooms, from Saturday, July 4 to Friday, August 31.

It will be accompanied by a series of lectures at Tennants, given by curators from The Bowes Museum on the history and collections.

There will also be a private tour led by a curator.
