WOULD-BE Steven Spielbergs are to get the chance to take their first steps towards a Hollywood career.

Youngsters from across Hambleton and Richmondshire are being invited to try their hand at film making this summer.

Filmstars 2015 is a competition for 11 to 18-year-olds that allows them to create, film, edit and even star in their own movies.

They are asked to choose a topic that affects them or their friends, put together a five minute script and film it by mid-August.

The mini-productions will be shortlisted after being watched by a panel of experts – and will then be premiered at a glitzy ceremony in September which will be followed by presentations to the winners.

The contest has been organised by the two local safety delivery teams – Safer Hambleton and Safer Richmondshire – and is supported by Star Radio.

“It could be about the effects of drinking, the dangers of illegal highs, sexual health – or the consequences of committing a crime,” said Carl Les, chairman of the two teams.

“It can be anything that affects young people and their friends. We want everyone who aspires to be a film director, an actor or a writer to get involved with Filmstars 2015. All we ask is that they register before June 8.”

Following the ceremony the films will be made available for use in schools across the two districts. To take part in the competition log on to starradio.co.uk and register before June 8.
