A NURSERY worker has had his locks lopped for charity after years of wearing his hair long.

Luke Henderson, who works at Rooftops Montessori Nursery, Richmond, raised hundreds of pounds after enduring the clippers for the first time in years.

The 21-year-old has had long hair since he was about eight but decided to have severe haircut for charity.

Hairdresser Kayleigh Slater, who runs The Barber Shop in Leyburn, performed the honours at the nursery – to the cheers of watching children.

The hair was collected and will be donated to the Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost theirs.

Luke raised £500, which will be donated to the Neuro Foundation, an organisation that supports people with neurofibromatosis, a condition that affects the nervous system and skin.

“One of our children last year was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis,” he said.

“It would be difficult for people of any age to deal with this condition, but for a girl as young as four it is heart-breaking.”

“It was great to have it cut for a good cause and I don’t mind the new look,” he said.

“The only problem might be when I go to gigs as I can’t dance but used to hide behind my hair.”
