A MAN has been charged with murdering a married father-of-two in a town centre.

Cohnor James Coleman was arrested on Thursday, three days after Andrew Jackson died in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

He is due to appear at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court today.

The 24-year-old from Cookson Way, Brough with St Giles, near Catterick Garrison, previously appeared in court on Monday, when he was charged with a Section 18 wounding with intent after the alleged assault outside the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond on Saturday night.

A 38-year-old woman, who is understood to be Mr Jackson's wife of five years, Sarah, and was also arrested in connection with the incident near the Georgian Theatre Royal on Victoria Road, Richmond, remains on police bail.

The couple, who met in 2006, lived in Brough with St Giles before moving to Richmond.

Mr Jackson, a former assistant professional at Richmond Golf Club, worked for Reed Boardall, a cold storage and haulage company, based near Boroughbridge.

Members of the club have paid tribute to Mr Jackson, who had been given the nickname Puppy, saying he had helped shape the local golfing scene for decades.

The investigation into the assault remains ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Allan Harder, of North Yorkshire Police’s major crime unit, said: “It is important that we find out exactly what happened to Andrew, therefore I am appealing to anyone who saw him on Saturday night between 6pm and 11.25pm to contact us with information about where he was, what he was doing and who he was with.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
