WITNESSES are being sought after a driver failed to stop at the scene of an accident.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information on the incident, which happened on Tuesday (April 14) on the A66 between Scotch Corner and Barnard Castle.

At about 9.50pm a small, red car pulled out of the junction near the Rokeby Inn, formerly the A66 Motel, at Smallways, near the village of Newsham.

It failed to cross the road onto the other carriageway, causing the driver of a grey Land Rover Defender to swerve, lose control before it flipped onto its side.

The driver of the red vehicle drove off, heading south towards Newsham.

Police are investigating and are appealing for the public’s help, in particular information on the red vehicle that failed to stop.
