JEREMY Clarkson will not face charges over a fracas he had with a Top Gear producer at a hotel in the Yorkshire Dales.

North Yorkshire Police said it had completed its investigation into the incident at the Simonstone Hall Hotel, near Hawes, which cost the BBC presenter his job, and that it would not be pursuing this matter further.

Producer Oisin Tymon had his lip split in a 30-second-long assault on March 4 at the hands of Clarkson, after an angry tirade in the hotel over food.

The attack followed a day filming the show, and Mr Tymon had to take himself to hospital with his injuries.

The force said it took a "thorough and victim-led approach" to the investigation and Mr Tymon stated that he did not want the police to take action on his behalf.

A police spokesman said: "Now that all the interviews are complete, we have properly established that there is no need for further police action."

The force said after establishing that Mr Tymon did not want to press charges, detectives still needed to speak to some members of the public who were present at the time of the incident, who had been affected by the event, and whose views also needed to be considered.

It said it had a duty to investigate where it believed an offence might have been committed.

Mr Clarkson, 54, was told last month his Top Gear contract would not be renewed by the BBC.
