A CHARITY that supports communities and local projects across the Yorkshire Dales is celebrating a cash windfall.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has been awarded £75,000 towards its work by the People’s Postcode Lottery.

And of that £50,000 was given as a special award to YDMT in recognition of the charity’s consistent performance regarding joint communication efforts.

The news was announced at People’s Postcode Lottery’s annual Charity Gala held in Edinburgh.

More than £3 million in additional funding for supported charities was announced at the gala where guest of honour Dame Kelly Holmes joined 300 guests.

Trust director David Sharrod said: “With more than 50 supported charities to choose from, we are both proud and humbled to have been selected to receive the £50,000 Charity Communication Award of the Year.

“It is a real accolade, and recognition of the dedicated and professional – and fun – team of colleagues I have here; they really do care about this area.”

He added: “Together with the news that we’ll be receiving an additional £25,000 from players, it means that we’ll be able to achieve so much more.”
