PLANS are under way to make Christmas extra special for up to 90 vulnerable Richmondshire residents.

A tireless band of volunteers have provided an annual festive meal on December 25 for the lonely and homeless since 1997.

They prepare a traditional lunch – as well as gifts for every guest – thanks to the sponsorship of local businesses and donations from local people.

And the organisers want to be sure everyone has the chance to take a place at one of the dinner tables.

“We want anyone who is lonely, by themselves or homeless this festive season to join us as a guest,” said organiser Keith Hall.

“We have places for around 90 people and we can drive people in if necessary.”

He added: “This is a wonderful occasion – Christmas is a time for sharing and joy and no one should be alone”

Anyone wishing to donate a gift can leave it unwrapped at the donation station in Richmond District Council’s Mercury House.

Dinner will be served from12.30pm in Richmond’s town hall and anyone who wants to take part– or can offer any help – should contact Keith on 01748-850961.
