A RICHMOND care home has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog after an unannounced inspection.

Cake UK’s The Terrace, in Maison Dieu, provides specialist care for people with dementia who have the most complex care needs, as well as offering full time residential care.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) report said the care home had a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. According to the inspector, residents felt they were supported by kind and attentive staff; and they were treated with respect, looked well cared for and appeared at ease with staff.

The report said the home meets the Government’s five national standards of quality and safety; respect, meeting patients’ needs, protecting from harm, staffing and management.

Inspectors also saw evidence of group activities, including trips out on a minibus loaned from a local charity, and also how staff were also able to spend one to one time with residents to support individual interests.

Home manager Nicola Wilkins said: “We are all thrilled to have received such a positive report from the CQC.

“Several key points were highlighted, such as the caring service provided by staff, and how residents all benefit from person-centred treatment and support which meets their needs.

“However, above all, the team here was particularly pleased to read how we have created a relaxed and comfortable environment for our residents, who clearly enjoy living at the Terrace.”
