TWO SISTERS are organising a fundraising walk in support of their mum who is battling ovarian cancer – and to raise awareness of the warning signs.

Becki Golding, 24, and Laura Morton, 29, from Richmond, are holding a Toddlers’ Toddle from Richmond Station to Easby on Sunday, October 19, which is open to women and children from the local area.

They want to raise as much money as possible for Target Ovarian Cancer at the event, which starts at 10.45am and includes a picnic at Easby.

Janet Golding was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008 and was in remission following treatment.

“We have recently found out it is now in her liver," said Becki. "We want to encourage women to listen to their bodies and see a doctor if they feel that something is not right.”

Mrs Golding, 54, has already beaten her own £100 fundraising target after getting a tattoo.

Mum has said for a while she wanted a tattoo but wasn’t sure what to get. When she discovered the cancer had returned she decided to go for it – and my sister and I are getting matching ones.”

Becki chose a design incorporating the universal lavender cancer ribbon and a love heart.

“We have plans to hold more fundraising events but want to focus on the toddle first.

“We have posters and leaflets from Target Ovarian Cancer charity.

“Mum’s symptoms were very much like Irritable Bowl Syndrome so she didn’t associate it with her ovaries.

“More recently with her liver, she went to the doctor with shoulder pain on her left side – which is apparently fairly common with liver diseases – so we want to make sure people see a doctor if they know something is not right with their health.”
