A NEW ultra-tough race has been launched involving 8km of marsh, bogs, rivers, woodland, hills, mud and obstacles - at an assault course branded the toughest in the UK.

The Adrenalin Rush will take place on Saturday, October 25 at the assault course used in the television programme The Krypton Factor.

The course, on Aske Moor, near Richmond, was created by former paratrooper Will Scullion.

Mr Scullion was a former sergeant major in the Parachute Regiment, which requires its recruits to pass notoriously gruelling physical fitness tests in some of the most arduous army training in the world.

He said he has tried out courses and endurance races around the world and believed his Adrenalin course to be the toughest in the country.

“Even just running the course is a killer, but there’s 20 obstacles. There’s also a long swamp and it goes through rivers and up and down dale,” he said.

“I’ve done all the assault courses in the UK and courses around the world and combined those experiences and ones from the military to make it physically and psychologically intimidating, so whatever time you pass, you feel a boost to your self-esteem.

“The main thing is it’s tough.”

The race is just over 8km and finishes with 800m of deep mud and The Krypton Factor assault course.

It is open to anyone over the age of 16 and entry is £25 per person, with a ten per cent discount if you raise funds for The Mark Wright Project, which provides support for ex-servicemen and women after service in war zones.

The race will begin at 10am and finish by midday.
