PEOPLE interested in living in a new extra care housing scheme in Leyburn are encouraged to come forward as work shortly gets underway on the development.

A partnership between Broadacres, North Yorkshire County Council, Richmondshire District Council, and the Homes and Communities Agency is seeing 46 apartments and 7 bungalows being built on a site at Harmby Road.

Broadacres, which will own and manage the scheme, is expecting work to start shortly, with completion in 2015.

Although people currently living in Brentwood Lodge Elderly Persons’ Home have been given priority for living in the new scheme, homes will also be available to those residents of Leyburn, the surrounding villages and the Upper Dales who meet the eligibility criteria, and Broadacres is now inviting people to register their interest in the scheme.

Of the 46 high specification apartments being built, there will be 20 open plan apartments specifically designed for people living with complex needs such as dementia, 26 two bedroom apartments and seven two bedroom bungalows.

Extra care housing enables couples to stay together and have their families to stay in the on-site guest suite if they wish.
