RICHMOND police are thanking a vigilant member of the public after a stone crusher stolen from a site in Colburn was recovered.

A 27-year-old man from York was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The crusher was stolen on March 29 and after reports in the media police were contacted by a witness who had seen the vehicle being taken.

Police Sergeant Kevin Graham, of Richmond Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I would like to thank the man who reported seeing the stone crusher being transported on the A1 for coming forward and contacting the police. As a direct result of this information, officers were able to recover the stolen property and progress their investigation.

“This is a great example of the valuable role the public and media play in helping the police to investigate crime and recover stolen property. If you see any activity which you believe is suspicious, I urge you to contact the police straight away.

“We always welcome calls made with good intent and would rather attend a scene where we are not needed than have to deal with a crime at a later time.”
