FARMER’S wife and mum-of-seven Amanda Owen is about to share her experiences of life in the Yorkshire Dales.

Familiar to millions through her appearances on TV’s The Dales, she has now penned an autobiography, The Yorkshire Shepherdess, to be published by Sidgwick and Jackson on April 10.

And on April 11 she will be sharing her stories in two talks at The Station in Richmond as well as signing copies of the book.

She lives a lifestyle that has almost vanished - an existence ruled by the seasons and her animals at Ravenseat, a 2,000 acre hill-farm at the head of Swaledale.

In the book she describes how the rebellious girl from Huddersfield, who always wanted to be a shepherdess, achieved her dreams.

And she writes of from fitting in with the locals to fitting in motherhood, from the demands of the livestock to the demands of raising a large family in an isolated rural area.

The April 11 event has been organised to raise funds for The Station charity and will feature talks at 7pm and again at 8.15pm.

Tickets are £5, including light refreshments, and are available from Castle Hill Bookshop on 01748-824243 and The Station on 01748-850123.
