RUNNERS and walkers are invited to take part in an orienteering challenge to raise money for a rescue group.

The Survival is an open event which will take place at an as yet undisclosed location on the North York Moors on Saturday, March 24, to raise money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team (MRT), which covers much of the national park from its base at Great Ayton.

Participants can pit themselves against a 26 mile course or a shorter, 15 mile route through the open countryside, which they will need to complete within 12 hours.

They will be issued with route cards and need to visit a series of checkpoints identified by a grid reference and description in the order set out on the card.

All competitors will be provided with a hot meal at the end of the day and hot drinks will be available throughout the route.

People are asked to bring their own mugs for the hot drinks, in order to reduce landfill.

The event is a major fundraiser for Cleveland MRT, which is made up entirely of local volunteers.

People can enter the event as an individual or as part of a group.
