VIEWS are being sought on how the future of the North York Moors should be shaped.

A consultation has been launched by the Moors National Park Authority to gather feedback to inform its new Local Plan for the landscape.

The Local Plan will be used to help decide planning applications within the national park in the future.

The consultation is focussing on three main elements of the moors landscape; its feeling of tranquility, remoteness and its dark skies.

Research indicated that 90 per cent of the National Park is classed as “relatively tranquil” and a tranquillity policy would state that all development proposals would be assessed in relation to their impact on it.

The second element, the feeling of remoteness, suggests that development only be allowed in remote areas of the park so there is no proliferation of clustered buildings.

The third part of the policy will consider the preservation of dark night skies over the moors.
