RUNNERS in search of a new challenge are invited to take part in a “dark run” through a forest in February.

The 5K event will take place at Dalby Forest near Pickering as part of the North York Moors National Park Dark Skies Festival on February 17.

The course is a mixture of forest roads, gravel paths, footpaths and wooden bridges. As it will take place in darkness, entrants will need to have a torch with them, preferably a head torch, with a beam strong enough to see in the forest. Signs will be in place with snap lights on them and marshals will also be at key sections of the course.

The Dalby Dark Run starts from near Dalby Forest Courtyard, Low Dalby, Pickering and parking at the site is limited.

The entrance fee to the run is £5 for all runners, which includes the Dalby Forest admission charge and all profits will go to Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT).

The run starts at 4.30pm, with registration at 4pm.

People cannot enter on the day of the event, but can sign up in advance by visiting; sientries.co.uk.
