PEOPLE have been enjoying a trip back in time and exploring a century of village life through old photographs.
Almost 1,000 images of Egton have been gathered together for a project that will document the history of the moorland village near Whitby and form a lasting archive for the village.
Egton Remembers – 100 Years of Village Life involves finding photographs and piecing together information about them, as well as sharing memories among different generations.
It is led by Revival North Yorkshire, a Community Interest Company, and funded by the Heritage Lottery fund.
On Friday evening, September 22 and October 20, two films will be shown in the Living Memories series where people from the villages of Esk Valley share pictures and memories at Egton Village Hall.
Over the weekend of Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8, the centre will host an exhibition of photographs showing past events in the village.
Debbie Swales, from Revival North Yorkshire, said: “Not only is there a history of floods and damaged bridges but Egton /Egton Bridge host one of the largest village shows and the oldest Gooseberry Show in the country.
"If anyone has interesting old photos of these events please contact Revival North Yorkshire on 07970 955407.”
