A HISTORIC railway line is preparing to host a steam gala with its existing and new steam locomotives, as well as events to keep all ages entertained.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Annual Steam Gala runs from Friday, September 29, until Sunday, October 1.

Over the weekend, the heritage railway will welcome some new faces to its fleet of steam locomotives, including 5199 from Llangollen Railway, along with 1501 and 7714 from the Severn Valley Railway.

During the weekend stations along the line will also host events of their own, such as the Autumn Steam Gala Beer Festival, which will see Levisham and Goathland offering a wide selection of real ales from local breweries such as Brass Castle, Helmsley Brewing Co and Baytown.

At Pickering station, Chris Vine, author of the children’s book, Peter’s Railway, will be signing copies of his book.

Chris Price, general manager at North Yorkshire Moors Railway said: “Every year we look forward to our Annual Steam Gala as it just seems to get better and better, and this year looks to be no different. We’re honoured to be welcoming such fantastic locomotives and an incredible author in Chris Vine. We hope many of you come along to see us, you won’t be disappointed.”

North Yorkshire Moors Railway is one of the most historic lines in the North of England, taking visitors on picturesque journeys along an 18 mile railway line aboard steam and heritage diesel trains.
