A TRAIL race to raise money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is taking place on the North York Moors this weekend.

The Viking Chase 4 Peaks involves a 12km course starting from Lord Stones Country Park on the moors near Great Ayton and involves 572m of ascent.

The race is an annual fundraiser for the rescue team, which is based in Great Ayton and covers the northern half of the North York Moors; an area of about 1,000 square kilometres.

The charity, whose volunteers are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, needs to raise about £25,000 a year in order to operate.

It is hoped the race will raise some of the funds needed.

The Viking Chase 4 Peaks event can be entered on the day for £6 and will take runners from Carlton Bank near Great Ayton to Clay Bank and back.

Lord Stones park has made a car parking area available on the day.

People can follow marshal instructions on the day to the car parking area, which lies about 50m past the entrance to the café car park if travelling from Carlton-in-Cleveland.

Registration takes place from 9am until 10.30am.

Runners must be aged 18 or over.
