A £7,300 grant has been awarded to a project that aims to collect memories of life in a moorland village.

Revival North Yorkshire, a Community Interest Company, received the money from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project which aims to document 100 years of village life in Egton and Egton Bridge on the North York Moors.

The project is based in Egton Village Hall, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. It involves collecting old photographs of the local area and older residents their sharing memories. A permanent collection of photographs will be created at the village hall which can be displayed at future events.

Debbie Swales, from Revival North Yorkshire said: “The project will enable older people to share their memories with children and other adults who maybe new to, or simply visiting, the area. We will gather information about the photos brought to the events and they will be photographed by a professional photographer to create a permanent record.

“We are keen to encourage people in the community to learn more about their local history with additional support from Whitby Museum. Egton Remembers is a celebration of the area and its people.”

She added: “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to National Lottery players and look forward to people coming together to share their photographs and memories at our community photo sessions and special red carpet event.”

There will be more information available on the Egton Remembers at Egton Community Cafe at Egton Village Hall on Wednesday, May 31 at 10.30am.

There will also be two community photo sessions at Egton Village Hall from 2pm until 4pm on Monday, June 5 and from 10am until 12noon Saturday, June 15.
