A RENOWNED deli has come up with an innovative way of catering to all voter's tastes, with the creation of sandwiches representing each main political party in England.

Dubbed 'The Great British Sandwich-Off', Hunters of Helmsley will monitor the sales of their political sandwiches to predict how voting will go on June 8.

So if you're a die-hard Conservative you can tuck into 'The Blue Bloomer' stuffed with rare topside of beef, Harrogate Blue Cheese and Sloemotion Blackberry Ketchup.

But if Labour gets your vote, then the 'The Red Roll' – a tangy mix of Wensleydale with Cranberries, sweet chilli jam and juicy tomatoes – could be for you.

Christine Garnett, who owns Hunters with her husband Chris, said: “It seemed to us that it’s getting harder and harder for anyone to predict how voting on any subject will go.

"So, we thought we’d have a bit of fun and do our own poll to see which political party is leading the hearts, minds (and stomachs) of the public over the next couple of weeks.”

The sandwiches representing the other main parties are; Liberal Democrats – The Democratic Doorstep – a mix of pastrami, sauerkraut, mustard and Gruyere; Green Party – The Green Gourmet - a combination of Villa Verde Gouda with pesto, salad and green olives, and for UKIP – Pain au Purple – deep-filled with Smoked Applewood cheese, roasted ham and sliced pickled beetroot.

Ms Garnett said: “We can sell several hundred sandwiches in a week, so we should be able to get a good indication of the favourites before voting day comes.

"Maybe it will be another surprise victory, and our deep-filled sandwiches will have predicted it all along.”
