GROUPS and individuals can now apply for grants to help fund projects related to preserving and improving the ironstone heritage across the North York Moors National Park.
Thanks to the support of the National Lottery, a series of small grants are available as part of the £3.8m This Exploited Land of Iron project, funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scope is wide for grant applicants – from projects that will improve the built or natural heritage of the area through to visitor interpretation and education schemes, research assignments and community and volunteering schemes.
All applications will be judged on the contribution they make to the overall vision for conserving and recording the heritage of the North York Moors ironstone mining industry which made a huge contribution to the Victorian industrial revolution.
