CHILDREN had the chance to see what life was like for an evacuee when they visited a heritage railway.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) invited school pupils to get dressed up in 1940s outfits and see how children experienced being sent to homes in the countryside during the Second World War.
The 27 pupils from St John the Baptist Primary School in Stockton visited the station at Pickering and took a ride on one of the trains.
The event took place ahead of this weekend’s Railway in Wartime event.
Every station along the 18 mile route will be transformed into a colourful variety of scenarios from World War II, including local re-enactment troops.
