MANAGERS of one of the region’s National Trails are celebrating a financial boost.

Ultrarun organisers Hardmoors are to donate a pound from each entry fee for their events to support the work of the Cleveland Way, both in promoting and managing the trail.

They have entered into a three-year agreement with the North York Moors National Park Authority.

Hardmoors, operated by Jon and Shirley Steele, were among the first to set up a series of ultraruns, mainly using the Cleveland Way National Trail.

The events have gone from strength to strength over the last ten years when the inaugural 110-mile run of the full route was first completed.

Today runners have a number of distance options to choose from 10k runs and up.

And in celebration of ten years of Hardmoors ultraruns, there will be a special event this year that combines both the Cleveland Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trails – a distance of some 190 miles.

Mr Steele said: “It’s fantastic to be able to be involved in events like this.

“The North York Moors provides a stunning backdrop for the runs and it’s great to be able to give something back to the National Park and its community in this way.”

The National Trails officer for the Cleveland Way, Malcolm Hodgson said: “The contribution from Hardmoors is very valuable to us and we really appreciate their support.

“The funding will allow us to continue to provide essential information through our Cleveland Way website as well as supporting work to keep the path in top condition.”
