A MAJOR programme of tree clearance is taking place to preserve the power supply to communities in the North York Moors.
Electricity distributor Northern Powergrid is set to complete a major programme of tree clearance to protect its power network to communities in the Goathland area.
It has already cleared vegetation from more than 17 km of its overhead power lines in the area. However, the final stage of the work to clear vegetation and trees from 1.8km of its network will require Northern Powergrid to interrupt power to 375 homes and businesses in the Grosmont, Beckhole, Egton Grange and Goathland area on September 15.
It will enable teams of arborists to safely cut back trees which are particularly close to the 11,000 volt power lines.
