EIGHT locomotives and a range of real ales are to feature in a celebration of steam at the end of this month.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway annual autumn event will run from Friday, September 30 until Sunday, October 2.

It will feature two “Black Five” class locomotives from the heritage railway’s home fleet and a visiting locomotive 2807, a heavy freight engine originally built for the Great Western Railway which was restored after being saved from the Woodham Brothers scrapyard in 1981.

She will be joined by the “standard 4” class 76084 which was bought for £7,500 in 1982 and resided in a private backyard before returning to the tracks in 2013.

The Great Western Manor Class will also appear, after returning to working order earlier this year following extensive boiler repairs.

During the weekend stations along the line will be hosting special events of their own such as the Autumn Steam Gala Beer festival, which will see Levisham and Goathland offering a wide selection of real ales from breweries such as Brass Castle, Helmsley Brewing Company and Whitby brewery.

Tickets for the Autumn Steam Line Gala are now available via the website. Tickets booked before September 2 qualify for a 10 per cent discount by using discount code 10AUTUMN.
