TIBETAN BUDDHIST monks are to visit North Yorkshire this weekend, to introduce sacred music and monastic dance.

The monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery will be bringing The Power of Compassion to Helmsley Arts Centre on Saturday, May 21 to introduce the atmosphere of sacred Tibet.

The performance will include colourful costumes, the sounds of the Dungchen long horns, cymbals, bells and drums, masked dances and mantras chanted by the monks.

It will include an introductory explanation of each item in the programme to allow audiences more understanding and insight into the mysterious ancient culture.

The monks are all in exile from Tibet and now live in their monastery near Mysore in South India. They have taken their performances to theatres, arts centres and village halls all over the UK and Europe and even made a guest appearance in Loxfest in The Archers on Radio 4 alongside the Pet Shop Boys in 2014.

To book tickets for the event, call Helmsley Arts Centre box office on 01439-771700 or online at; www.helmsleyarts.co.uk

The performance is taking place at 7.30pm.
