A MAN who was successfully treated for cancer is aiming to raise more than £6,000 to thank the Macmillan Nurses who supported him.
Matthew Ascough, from Yearsley, near Helmsley, was 26 when he was diagnosed as suffering from testicular cancer in 2013.
Following treatment he went into remission and raised £896 through fundraising while he was banqueting manager at the Black Swan in Helmsley.
Now 28, he is planning to raise more money for Macmillan Cancer Support by holding a Hopes and Dreams Summer Ball on July 16.
Mr Ascough will host the 550-ticket ball at York Racecourse, where he is the events manager.
"I want to give something back to the charity,” he said.
“They were there for me when I was in my darkest hour and they were there afterwards."
Starting at 6.45pm, the evening will include a green carpet welcome, drinks reception, three-course meal with dinner entertainment, a silent and live auction, a raffle, a casino and entertainment from The Monotones and a DJ.
