A BREWERY is North Yorkshire has notched up more awards for its beers.

The Wensleydale Brewery at Bellerby, near Richmond, has won two silver awards from the Society of Independent Brewers.

Their Falconer Bitter took its award in the Standard Bitters and Pale Ales category while their Black Dub Oat Stout also came second in the Porters, Stouts, Old Ales, Strong Milds and Strong Brown Ales category.

The Wensleydale Brewery was established over ten years ago and its current owners took over two and a half years ago.

Local lads and friends, Geoff Southgate, 25, and Carl Gehrman, 24, are no strangers to awards for their beers, having won a string of local and regional accolade.

The pair started working at the brewery after they left school. Their passion for brewing quickly grew and when the opportunity arose to buy the business in February 2013, they seized it.

Geoff says: “Since taking over the brewery we’ve gone from strength to strength and these latest awards are one of the highlights of what’s been a very busy and successful year for us. We constantly strive to develop our products so they’re absolutely top notch and these accolades prove to us that we’re getting it right.”
