A GROUP of dedicated walkers are set to take part in a hike across the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The long-established 22-mile circular walk will be taking place on Sunday, May 24, leaving the Station Hotel on Boosbeck’s high street at 7.30am, and following a route taking in Gribdale, the Captain Cook Monument at Easby and Birk Brow.

The annual event is one of the largest single year by year contributions to the air ambulance service, having already raised thousands of pounds in recent times.

Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: “We want to say a massive thank you to everybody taking part.

“The funds raised will go directly towards keeping our helicopter up in the air and this will without a doubt save lives in the region. We are immensely grateful for their ongoing support to the charity.”

Peter Welcome, of the walk committee, said: “This walk is going from strength to strength, and we want to make this the biggest yet. The more walkers we get, the better the reward for the Air Ambulance.

“It’s not just a walk for local villagers. In the past we have welcomed walkers from across Teesside and the North East and hope to see them again this year."

Anyone wanting to take part in the walk can contact Mr Welcome on 01287-652988.
