A NEW exhibition celebrating printmaking is to open simultaneously in North Yorkshire, Finland, Sweden and Scotland.

Mirror Images is an international project which involved printmakers from several countries collaborating to create new and original artwork.

The exhibition opens in all the countries on May 9 and involves work which draws on the ideas of place, identity and the environments in which the artists live and work.

It has involved Chrysalis Arts in North Yorkshire and the North York Moors National Park working with Ratamo Print and Photography Centre in Finland and Algarden in Sweden and the Highland Print Studio in Scotland.

The exhibition will open in the UK at The Inspired by...gallery on the North York Moors near Danby on Saturday, May 9 and will remain there until Monday, June 5, when it tours to other venues.

Printmakers from North Yorkshire include Moira McTague, based in Burnt Yates, near Harrogate and David Cook, a painter and printmaker from Malhamdale and Hester Cox, from Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

There will also be a region-wide series of print exhibitions, workshops and talks over the coming months including a talk by Swedish artist, Christina Lindeberg at Rural Arts in Thirsk and a look at vinyl lino-cutting by Andrew Dalton at the same venue.
