MUGGLES are being given the chance to take a magical journey across the North York Moors.

In the first Harry Potter film, Goathland station played the role of Hogsmeade – the end of the line for the Hogwarts Express.

And on August 8 and 29 families can ride behind a steam train to the fabled village on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s very own Hogwarts story train.

Hagrid look-alike Jem Frazer will be playing the cordial host, joined by a number of the prefects from Hogwarts to keep order aboard the train.

The train departs Pickering at 10am, heading straight up to Goathland, where passengers disembark to explore the village, have a picnic and play games.

The story train starts its return journey at 12.50pm, with a stop at Levisham for some trackside fun before returning to Pickering at around 2.40pm.

“We’re going to have a wizard time on the Hogwarts story train,” said marketing manager Danielle Ramsey.

“We’ll be giving prizes for the best costume, too, so passengers are welcome to turn up as any character from the Harry Potter stories, from the young wizard himself to a chocolate frog.”

Tickets for the story trains are £20.50 for adults, £17.50 for seniors or £10.50 for children. A family ticket – covering two adults and up to four children – is £45. Pre-booking is recommended, as places are limited.
