BIKERS across the region are being invited to a police motorcycle safety day in North Yorkshire.

The event will be held at DW Motorcycles in Scarborough on April 19 and will feature police motorcyclists and representatives from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

Riders will be given the opportunity to have their skills assessed through an observed ride with a police motorcyclist or a member of the IAM.

The "95 Alive" York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership will also be on hand with free copies of the latest Biker's Guide to North Yorkshire, road safety advice and other giveaways including visor wipes and ear plugs.

Local MP and Transport Minister, Robert Goodwill will also be in attendance.

Traffic Sergeant Neale Rees, of the North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, said: "This event is intended to be a friendly and fun way to engage with the biking community while at the same time spreading the word about improving riding skills and bike safety.

"Bikers will also get the chance to have their riding observed by trained and experienced riders and get advice which might help improve their skills further.

"We want bikers to feel welcome in North Yorkshire and enjoy our roads but we also want them to return home safely so that they can come back again and again.”

The event will take place between 10am and 4pm at DW Motorcycles on Roscoe Street, Scarborough.
