AN annual running event will feature some of the largest wheels in Yorkshire.

This year's Helmsley 10k has been sponsored by BHE agricultural contractors, based in nearby Sproxton.

Owner Simon Dunn will be bringing his newest tractor, a New Holland T9, for people to have their photographs taken with.

Carol Swift, one of the 10k organisers, said the tractor has some of the largest wheels in Yorkshire, and thanked BHE for supporting the event, which raises funds for the refurbishment of Helmsley Sports and Social Club.

Entries are up on last year, and more than 400 runners are expected to take part in the multi-terrain race.

It will be held on Sunday, April 20, at 10am. The first 300 finishers are guaranteed a mug and an Easter egg. There will also be children's races on the sports field for youngsters aged five to 15.

"This is the fifth run we have organised and it all helps towards improving the facilities we have at the club," said Ms Swift.

"We want to get more children involved with sport and the facilities we have.

"It is hard work organising the 10k but it makes it worthwhile when we see the refurbished club and we hope people will now start to come forward and use what is on offer."
