Police are investigating two barn fires on the same farm which it is believed could have been started deliberately.

The first fire was on Friday December 6 when firefighters battled to control a blaze in a 20 metre by ten metre barn containing 220 bales of hay and straw at Wardle Rigg Farm at Stape, between Helmsley and Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Crews from Pickering, Goathland, Kirkbymoorside and Whitby attended and were still damping down next morning.

The second fire broke out on Friday January 3 around 11.30pm when 170 tons of straw and hay in another barn was destroyed.

Police are treating both fires as suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Andy Marsden - ring 101 go for option 2 and ask for him by name or email andy.marsden@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
