NORTHALLERTON’S first ever Parkrun for youngsters has been hailed a great success.

More than 50 children aged four to 14 took part in the free 2km timed run on the playing fields around Northallerton Leisure Centre.

Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for leisure, said it was “fantastic” to see the children enjoying themselves.

She added: “The atmosphere was brilliant and thanks must go to Wendy Cullen, Sarah Schofield, Kate Owens and Sarah Norman in getting the junior parkrun started.

“It has taken them a lot of hard work and a huge amount of time over the last eight months not to mention getting donations from local businesses and organisations, but they are so proud to see that their efforts have paid off and see so many children taking part and having fun.” It runs Sundays at 9am from Stone Cross.
