A TOWN’S mayor has taken on a new role as a volunteer driver for a community car scheme, which helps people unable to access public transport.
Northallerton’s recently re-elected town mayor, Cllr John Forrest, has joined Hambleton Community Action’s Community Car Scheme. The initiative allows people who are unable to access public transport to reach appointments, friends, or attend day care facilities.
The volunteers use their own vehicles and offer a door to door service.
Cllr Forrest said: “I am looking forward to getting involved with this very worthwhile project.
“Elderly isolation is a growing problem and this scheme is one way of preventing it.”
