TWO charities in North Yorkshire are teaming up to improve access to social activities for adults with disabilities.

Northdale Horticulture and Breathing Space, both based in Northallerton, are working together to extend the range of services they can offer in Hambleton and Richmondshire districts.

Northdale Horticulture is a garden nursery based on Yafforth Road in Northallerton, which provides work-based education and employment opportunities and other activities for adults with learning difficulties.

Service manager at Northdale, Simon Cross, said: “Northdale are really excited about working with Breathing Space and would love to see the service extended to benefit the widest possible number of vulnerable people within our community. Northdale offers meaningful daytime activities but it's weekends and evenings when many of our members struggle to access affordable social and leisure activities.”

Breathing Space offers a range of supported activities such as bowling, craft nights and trips to local events. Its partnership with Northdale will enable it to continue offering a wide range of activities and extend its service to a wider range of vulnerable people.

Anne Alder, chair of Breathing Space, said: “Breathing space is really happy to have found a local partner to help us continue the social programmes we have offered for the last 23 years.

“We were struggling to maintain this on our own but now feel totally optimistic about the future with Northdale. We look forward to joint working and continuing to be able to these valuable outings.”
