SCHOOL children were given a vital lesson in how to become ‘internet legends’ when Google representatives delivered a special assembly.

Pupils at Broomfield Primary School in Northallerton were visited by a team from Google who shared tips and advice on how to stay safe online.

Richmondshire MP Rish Sunak took part in the event and said it was very important that young children were told about safe internet use.

He added: “We know that the average age of a person receiving their first mobile phone with internet access is just eight years of age so we need to get these important messages across early in their school career.

“It was a brilliant, fun presentation which the children enjoyed and, most importantly, understood.

“The message was clear for the children, and the adults present: we have to use the enormous power of the internet responsibly and safely to protect ourselves and our families.”

Headteacher Susan Gill said the session had been very stimulating for the children.
