A TEENAGE racing driver’s career will go up a gear this weekend when he will compete in two different competitions at the famous Brands Hatch circuit.

Ethan Hammerton, 16, from Northallerton, could win the 2017 Junior Saloon Car Championships (JSCC) title over the weekend as he currently lies second in the championship table.

And the young driver will also be competing in the prestigious Clio Cup Junior event, which is another feature of a weekend of racing at the Kent circuit.

Ethan is just six points behind the leading JSCC driver going into the last weekend of the championship, which is hosted at nine of the UK’s leading racing circuits.

He was Rookie of the Year last year, and has been on the podium for 14 of the 16 races – winning four rounds of this year’s competition, including victory in his Citroen at his home circuit, Croft.

Ethan is looking forward to the challenge the weekend represents and will be racing in his Citroen and in a Clio.

He said: "The standard of driving has been really high and the competition tough, but I’ve given myself a real chance of the title in the last weekend.

"Hopefully I’ll be able to hop from one car to the other without too much trouble."
