A disabilities charity in Hambleton and Richmondshire has received a cash injection to fund a mail-reading service for vulnerable residents.

North Yorkshire Advocacy has received £4,957, which it hopes will improve the current service provided to clients with dementia, learning disabilities, mental ill-health or sight impairment.

The donation was funded by the Santander Foundation, which offers Discovery Grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people.

The cash will help to offer a one-to-one mail and finance service to help those who find it difficult to manage their finances, use modern payment systems or decipher what is junk mail.

Lisa Whitecross, branch manager at Santander’s Northallerton branch, said: “Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting North Yorkshire Advocacy, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
