BLACK ties and ball gowns added a touch of Hollywood glitz and glamour as sixth form students stepped out at their Oscar themed prom.

Past and present pupils’, parents, friends and teaching staff at The Dales School, Morton-on Swale, near Northallerton, marked the end of the school year at the glittering red carpet event.

Party goers, at the co-educational special school for children with severe and complex learning needs, enjoyed a luxury limousine ride followed by pizza and popcorn before dancing to the tunes of DJ Tim Whitworth in the decorated school hall.

Assistant head teacher Anne Baker, who is leaving the school after 38 years, said: “The prom is always the highlight of the year for the students who choose everything from the theme to the decoration and even the food.

“It’s a very happy occasion to see everyone enjoying themselves but also slightly sad to be saying goodbye after so many years.

“I have had a brilliant time at the school and it has been a privilege to work with so many wonderful young people - I will be taking many precious memories with me.”
